This project started by covering and protecting all surfaces that needed to be kept clean. Next we started with stripping the old finish from the surface. We then thoroughly sanded the wood removing the top layer. This helped to eliminate discoloration from the elements. The home was then vacuumed top to bottom and wiped dust free. The surface of the wood was then thoroughly cleaned to open up the pores of the wood.

We then used a variety of Sikkens products to finish the surface. We have found the Sikkens products to hold up to the elements the best. They allow the wood to expand and contract without the finish chipping, cracking, or peeling. This makes maintenance and future recoating an easier task.

We applied a coat of stain control first. This helped to even out the grain and allow the staining to take uniformly. Then we added color by mixing two colored stains together. Depth and uniformity was created by applying two coats of stain. We then layered three finish coats over the top of the stain. The finish coats were lightly sanded in between to remove raised grain. All finishes have been applied with Purdy rollers and brushes. The final finish is furniture quality and a true work of art.

The top coats we used are softer than most. This allows the wood to expand and contract without the finish delaminating from the wood. The end result is a finish that is easy to maintain, withstands the elements, and beautifies the natural grain of the wood. The quality of craftsmanship and attention to detail is impeccable. This home truly is one of the most beautiful architectural designs I have ever had the pleasure of working on. I live for working on such masterpieces.
